- Staff – 6 exam proctors and 3 hall monitors
As the process for taking final exams at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law moved from paper blue books to an online platform, the requirements for exam proctors grew more and more technical.
“We wanted to try out using external proctors who could become familiar with the process, execute it several times in one exam season, and be comfortable and familiar with it,” said Megan F. Jennings, JD, Associate Dean for Student Affairs. “Law school exams are high-stakes exam situations for our students, so it’s important that the exam environment is calm, secure and well-organized. It’s no fun to come into a high-stakes exam and have the proctor have questions about what’s supposed to happen.”
After working with Edustaff to draw up a job description, the law school had a reliable team of proctors and hall monitors lined up within 10 days. Their first session of final exams with the new proctors, held just a month after they first contacted Edustaff, went so smoothly that the law professors commented on it.
Edustaff was very responsive, and did a great job figuring out what the law school needed, Jennings said. “Things ran on time and they ran smoothly. When the proctor is comfortable and confident with the process, that really transmits a sense a calm and security to the students.”
